ALFATHER standing in shadow, seen from behind

Know more. See deeper.

A personal exploration of knowledge, psychology, power, politics, identity and human social behavior.

An attempt to understand how we know, what we believe, why we act, and how humans organize around meaning and power.

Introduction

The pursuit of understanding

I am interested in the structures beneath what we usually take for granted: how beliefs form, how identities develop, why groups organize the way they do, how status and power operate, and how we distinguish knowledge from conviction.

This site is where I explore those questions.

Intellectual domains

Four lines of inquiry

The questions I keep returning to.

Epistemology

How do we know what we think we know?

Belief, skepticism, uncertainty, truth, perception, cognitive bias and epistemic humility.

Psychology

What moves the individual?

Personality, cognition, motivation, identity, attachment and human behavior.

Political Theory

How does power become legitimate?

Ideology, institutions, hierarchy, governance, political philosophy, realism and competing theories of social order.

Social Dynamics

What happens between us?

Status, hierarchy, signaling, conformity, prestige, dominance, cooperation, tribalism and group behavior.

Symbol

Why Odin?

We are all children seeking meaning.

He pursues knowledge at a cost. He sacrifices for understanding. He wanders, observes, manipulates, creates, deceives and questions. He exists at the intersection of wisdom, poetry, strategy, power and contradiction.

It is the relentless pursuit of understanding — including the uncomfortable parts of human nature.

A worldview should be a model, not a prison.

The ideas here are provisional. Some will survive scrutiny. Others will not.

That is the point.
